What is Starbound?
Starbound is a sandbox RPG from the creators of Terraria, Chucklefish. In Starbound, you play as a recent "Protectorate" graduate, who narrowly escapes Earth after it is destroyed by a planet-size beast called The Ruin. You then have to search the universe for the ancient artifacts of all six races in order to destroy The Ruin. In Starbound, you can play as:
- A human
- An Avian: Flightless bird people who live in tribes and worship birds with the ability to fly.
- An Apex: Super advanced apes who never evolved physiologically. The Apex society is in upheaval due to half of it being under a strict, fascist regime headed by "Big Ape", and the other half rebelling against "Big Ape".
- A Floran: Humanoid, carnivorous plants that will eat any kind of meat, including you. Floran have less developed language skills than the other races, but are very adept at hunting and fighting.
- A Hylotl: Amphibious humanoids with scales, gills, fins, and three eyes. While they're appearance may seem frightening, Hylotls are actually the most peaceful race. They rival the Apex with how advanced their technology is, but they aren't great fighters. In fact, due to being hunted by the Floran, most Hylotl have been driven underwater to giant bunkers. Hylotl have an Asian flavor to their style, and dance clubs can be found in their settlements.
- A Glitch: Robots that have a glitch in their programming, causing them to think that they live in medieval Europe. Glitch live in castles, with knights, lords, kings, and servants.
- A Novakid: Novakids are a mysterious race, and are not actually included in the main quest. Novakids are basically baby stars with a humanoid shape. They have a western, cowboy vibe, with their settlements resembling south-western boom towns.
